5WOOD RIVER – In an effort to create more effective communication methods with her constituents, State Senator Rachelle Crowe (D-Glen Carbon) is sending the following updates from the Illinois Capitol:

  • Crowe introduced Senate Bill 3235 to give active-duty military members living in Illinois free hunting and fishing licenses. Current law sets the fees for fishing and hunting licenses for resident veterans at one-half the license fee for residents.
  • The Senate voted to pass Senate Bill 2325, which would allow fire protection agencies and statewide associations to organize raffles designed to build a stronger and more sustainable fire and EMS system.
  • Earlier this year, Crowe was the first woman in state history to be appointed to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee. While leading this week, she supported an initiative to increase protections for identity theft and fraud.
  • Also as chair of the Special Committee on Opioid Crisis Abatement, Crowe has held several hearings allowing government and local agencies to give updates on the opioid crisis and give suggestions on possible solutions. This week, committee members heard testimonies from the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Insurance on the implementation of the 2018 State Opioid Action Plan.
  • March is Severe Weather Preparedness Month, and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency has started preparations for flood threats to river communities this spring. Crowe is in contact with state emergency officials and will give more details on informational events and tips as become available.
